Arrivando dalla strada comunale di Montecatini, dopo aver parcheggiato al parcheggio in prossimità di Piazza Campioni o di Largo Martinelli, si prosegue lungo la strada tenendo la valle a sinistra.Cominciamo così a percorrere le “Mura basse” in una rilassante passeggiata delimitata da grandi platani ombrosi. Anche attraverso questo percorso si possono raggiungere i luoghi ed i monumenti descritti negli itinerari precedenti e nel contempo ammirare il paesaggio della Valdinievole che si estende tutto intorno con scenari estremamente suggestivi sulla valle e sugli antichi Paesi emergenti dalle colline circostanti. Durante l’epoca medievale, successiva all’incastellamento di Monte Catini (scritto così nei documenti dell’epoca), il Paese era cinto da mura e provvisto di ben sette porte più un cosidetto “sportello segreto” posto sotto la Podesteria. I percorsi delle mura erano divisi in: mura basse nella zona nord, ampliate in tempi moderni fino a cingere tutto il paese, e mura sud.

3rd Itinerary – Low Walls and Upper Walls
Arriving from the Montecatini municipal road, and after parking the car near Piazza Campioni or Largo Martinelli, carry on along the road with the valley to your left. You then start to follow the “Low Walls” in a relaxing walk shaded by large plane trees. From this route you can also get to the places and monuments descr ibed in the previous itineraries and at the same time admire the landscape of the Valdinievole which extends all around with extremely picturesque views over thevalley and the ancient towns on the surrounding hilltops. During medieval times, following the fortification of Monte Catini (this is how it was written in documents of the time), the town was surrounded by walls and provided with seven gateways plus a socalled “secret doorway” under the Podesta’s Palace. The walls that enclosed the whole town were divided into the low walls, northbound, widened in modern times to enclose the whole town and the upper walls, southbound.
